Meet the Farmer "Rhubarb and Asparagus" Orientation Potluck Mixer

The Core Group of the Greenpoint-Williamsburg CSA requests the pleasure of your company at a presentation and potluck mixer to celebrate the start of the CSA season!

Saturday, May 16, 2009
1 to 4pm
Church of the Messiah
129 Russell Street (across from McGolrick Park)

The farmer of Garden of Eve will give a presentation on sustainable farming, organic produce, and life on the farm. Bring all your burning questions for the Q&A!

The Core Group will also be on hand to answer your questions about shares, distributions, work shifts, and becoming more active in the CSA.

Afterwards there will be time to enjoy a rhubarb-inspired cocktail while mingling with your CSA Community. We encourage you to be creative and bring a seasonal potluck dish to share.

New Food Doc Coming Soon!

This sounds like it's going to be a great addition to the "wake up call" food documentaries that we are seeing more and more of (i.e. "King Corn," "The Future of Food," etc). It's called "Food, Inc." and it's been showing at film festivals around the world, and will arrive at Film Forum on June 12th! It features Eric Schlosser ("Fast Food Nation"), Michael Pollan ("The Omnivore's Dilemma") and Joel Salatin (of Polyface Farm). From the trailer, you can see that it's going to be scary, and you may never step foot in a grocery store (hopefully) again!

Go Green! Greenpoint! Earth Day Celebration

Thank you to everyone that came out to yesterday's Go Green! Greenpoint Earth Day celebration! Even though this year we were tucked away behind the Automotive High School, we had a great turnout, and lucky for us, the weather held up, and there was even a good hour of sunshine there at the end! For me, it was great to see how many people were already familiar with the concept of a CSA, and it was also great to have the opportunity to give my spiel to those who weren't. All in all, it was a great success! Thanks everybody!

Go Green! Go Greenpoint! Earth Day Celebration at Automotive High School

Stop by our Earth Day booth this Sunday, April 19th at the Go Green! Go Greenpoint! Earth Day Celebration! We'll be chatting up the public and spreading the word on the benefits of local sustainable food and joining your local CSA from 11am to 4pm at the parking lot of the Automotive High School (Nassau Ave and N. 15th). There will be plenty of other booths and activities:

"There will be tons of fun for everyone at this festival! Features include educational displays, yummy things to eat and drink, arts & crafts, live music, scavenger hunts, an electronics recycling station, balloons, writing & art contests, environmentally friendly vendors, and yoga, judo, and other wellness displays.
In addition, drop off your cleaned gently-used bedding, books, clothes, shoes & toys - and, for a $5 donation, browse the selection and take away as many "riches" as you can carry. Don't forget to bring a bag (or a cart) to tote them all!"

But don't take our word for it, stop by and see for yourself!
